- What is your company’s mission?
OptimaData wants to support its clients with up to date Database knowledge and expertise with the right people and at the right place.
Data and database technology are developing at a very quick pace. Data is Big which leads to a continuous demand for knowledge that is up-to-date and experience with data and databases. Next to this, technology develops at the speed of light. Traditional, relational databases are very useful to existing environments that focus on transaction, and apps which support business-decisions. The unstoppable migration to the Cloud, new business requirements, dynamic workloads, and a drive for cost efficiency require companies to maintain and improve their current database environment. A solid assessment during the development phase can prevent many problems in terms of availability, scalability, and downtime. The increasing migration to open-source database management systems demand knowledge and know-how. Especially when it comes to developments like the ones mentioned above, OptimaData wants to support its clients with knowledge, expertise, and the right people at the right place.
- Why does your company attend PostgreSQL Conference Europe?
We believe in open source solutions for our clients. PostgreSQL is the world’s most advanced open source relational database. And more important, PostgreSQL is a very stable alternative for traditional licensed databases. We believe it is important that PostgreSQL keeps improving both as a product but also as a community, therefore we continue to support PostgreSQL and specially this event. Inspiration can be found in many places, but an event like PG Conf EU takes it to a whole new level. And being inspired as a group creates a mutual bond which will eventually leads to more creativity. And last but not least, we love “the hallway-track” to meet “the community”, have some real human contact and making valuable connections.
- What makes your company a great place to work?
OptimaData consists of a very enthusiastic team of fellow Database Reliability Engineers. Next to intensive training for knowledge and experience, we provide room for personal development and we stimulate and coach step by step. At OptimaData fun and work are tied together. That is why we regularly organize meet-ups (PostgreSQL Usergroup NL), Gamedays, and day trips. Additionally, we collectively visit (international) conferences and congresses like PG Conf EU. In other words: Working at OptimaData is an unique chance to make a steep learning curve, to develop yourself into a multi-platform DBA, to execute challenging assignments at clients, and to take care of trainings—all of this while being part of a professional team that has the same passion and drive. As we say: You are not a team because you work together, you are only a team if you care about each other.
- Which PostgreSQL extension do you benefit from most, and why?
We tend to appreciate many PostgreSQL extensions, however we recently have started working with TimescaleDB. We are impressed with the performance and scalabilty of this extension and the ease with which it processes enormous amounts of data. We are still in the process of getting to know all the ins and outs but if the first impression is indeed right, Timescale has in OptimaData a new fan!
