Interview with Adyen

- What is your company’s mission?
Adyen is the financial technology platform of choice for leading companies. By providing end-to-end payments capabilities, data-driven insights, and financial products in a single solution, Adyen helps businesses achieve their ambitions faster. Our team members are motivated individuals from different cultures that help each other do remarkable things every day and across time zones. We face unique technical challenges at scale and we solve those as a team. And together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions for businesses all across the world.
- What makes your company a great place to work?
There’s an enormous sense of teamwork at Adyen. Everyone is involved in building a company together. It’s not just one single contribution – each employee take prides in how we bring the company forward.
The way we work is also guided by the eight principles of the Adyen Formula. This set of values is integrated into our daily tasks, and how we interact with colleagues and clients. For example, we don’t hide behind email; instead we pick up the phone. We also include different people to sharpen our ideas. These principles help create an inclusive culture where we can work efficiently across time zones.
- Which of your company’s contributions to the PostgreSQL Project (code/community/conference) are you most proud of?
We are proud to be part of the PostgreSQL community and we try our best to give our contribution. We foster local communities and support new initiatives: in Amsterdam we have been hosting the PostgreSQL User Group NL, a space for promoting PostgreSQL new features and best practices. We continue sharing our knowledge and lessons learnt via our technical blog, video material (recordings of internal sessions and events) and conference talks.
- What feature in the last PostgreSQL version benefits your company most?
Partitioning is awesome! This is a crucial feature considering the large amount of data we store and process. From inheritance-based partitioning to declarative (native) partitioning was a significant step forward for our DB engineers and Postgres developers, allowing us to avoid custom code and instead rethink table designing. We will share our experience (challenges and benefits) at PGCong EU 2022.
- Why does your company attend PostgreSQL Conference Europe?
We attend PGCong EU every year with the entire DBA team, we see that as a great opportunity to learn and connect but we also bring our own experiences and success stories. You will see our speakers on stage.
For our DB engineers it is a fantastic team building experience and the best way to keep up-to-date with PostgreSQL new features, trends and best practises.
